The Texas Citizen Bee is a statewide civic education program and competition,
which offers teachers and high school students (9th grades) an exciting way to
reach and study America’s heritage. Topics of study include U.S. history, U.S.
government, economics, geography, and current events.
The goals of the Texas Citizen Bee are to encourage interest and participation in
our democracy and to reward students publicly for their interest. The competition
and the learning process leading to the competition involve students, teachers,
parents, public officials, civic groups and businesses in a community-wide effort.
The Texas Citizen Bee is entering its 23rd year. Students participate in the
Citizen Bee at the school, regional and state levels. The state level Texas Citizen
Bee will be held at the State Capitol in Austin on Saturday, May 12, 2007.
The Texas Citizen Bee continues to reflect the strong commitment of individuals
throughout the state to furthering the civic education of our youth, and preparing
them for an integral role in the future of our nation.
