The Project Citizen Texas State Showcase is the culminating activity for this civic education program for middle school students. As a class project, students’ work together to identify and study a public policy issue, eventually developing an action plan for implementing their policy. The final product is a portfolio displaying each group's work and a research documentation notebook.
One portfolio may be selected from each congressional district to advance to the state showcase. The class whose project is chosen may bring up to four students and one teacher to Austin for the showcase, which will include a hearing process.
Due to time constraints, only two projects per school will be allowed at the state competition this year. If your school has more than two projects because of after-school programs, multiple teachers, etc…you will need to select the final two to bring to the showcase. All projects are due in the Law-Related Education office by April 27, 2007. The Texas State Showcase for 2006-07 will take place May 11, 2007.
