LESSON PLANS & CURRICULUM
Lesson Plans (Bilingual/ESL)
University of Texas San Antonio Downtown Campus
These social studies lessons were prepared by bilingual teacher candidates in their final year of teacher preparation at the University of Texas at San Antonio. They are geared toward elementary school teachers who work with bilingual and/or ESL students. Each lesson integrates a "homemade" social studies box created by the lesson's author(s). These social studies boxes serve as excellent realia for students and bring to life abstract concepts, moments in history, or other topics tied to state curricular standards.
Bilingual teacher candidates in the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies created these lessons and boxes while taking Dr. Patricia Sánchez's course on the integration of social studies, math, and science. Additional support and editing was provided by departmental graduate students pursuing master's and Ph.D. degrees.
