Hatton W. Sumners Institutes
The first institute (101) was held in November and December 1990 at St. Mary’s Law School in San Antonio. Since that time institutes have been held across the state. In 1995, a new Advanced Institute (201) was added for those teachers who had previously attended the original institute, and in 1998, an Update (301) session was added for those who had previously attended both 101 and 201.
In addition the Student Teacher Institute was begun in 1997 for those students preparing to do their student teaching, for those having completed their student teaching, or for those teachers who have just completed their first year in the classroom. As of 2009, 6286 teachers have been trained in the Institutes on the Founding Documents, affecting approximately 5,001,225 students.
