Book It (Elementary)
Elementary teachers have long seen the value of teaching key social studies concepts through literature. Using well-known pieces of children’s literature appropriate for grades K-5, Law-Related Education consultants have written interdisciplinary lessons that reinforce both language arts and social studies content and skills in this exciting 176 page curriculum.

First Steps to Citizenship (Elementary)
Beginning with a lesson using the story of “Humpty Dumpty” to illustrate the reason we need rules and laws and ending with a scripted mock trial of the “Big Bad Wolf and Curly Pig,” this seventy-three page curriculum explores key elementary social studies TEKS with creative games and interactive strategies.

LRE Blueprint (All Levels)
The LRE Blueprint includes over 100 strategies for teaching Social Studies. These strategies provide teachers with creative ways to involve students in the learning process. Fun and interactive lessons will help students develop their own ideas while promoting discussion, participation and creativity. It includes strategies for teaching and processing court cases, key people and events using over 60 handouts and worksheets.

Order in the Court (Secondary)
Order in the Court--A Secondary Teacher’s Guide to a Mock Trial allows the teacher to guide students to a deeper understanding of the constitutional principles of the justice system in the United States. Lessons provide step by step activities to help students analyze and prepare to conduct one of five mock trials.

Pondering the Progressive (Secondary)
The curriculum includes five topic outlines on the critical years from 1890 to 1920. Additionally, multiple activities ready for classroom use explore this content. This curriculum leaves no doubt as to the importance of the “Progressive Era” in the history of the United States.

Principles of the U.S. Constitution (Secondary)
Complete with primary Law-Related Education scholar outlines and diagrams, this curriculum will assist the teacher with the content needed to help students grasp the seven principles of the U.S. Constitution. At least two lessons for each principle are included along with culminating activities to help assess the students’ understanding of these basic principles of our government.

Roles and Powers of the President (Secondary)
Law-Related Education scholar content outlines on the powers of the presidency as outlined in the Constitution are paired with classroom lessons to help the teacher and students understand the roles of the president. Additionally, students will be able to participate in decision making activities illustrating these powers in action.

Teaching Texas History through the Constitutions and It’s Principles (Secondary)
In this curriculum, the seven principles of the Texas Constitution are the focus. Each principle is highlighted with scholar outlines, graphics, and interactive activities to help solidify the students’ understanding of these key ideas. A culminating activity covering all seven principles is provided. Finally, the curriculum includes summaries of all the constitutions that have been used throughout the history of Texas as well as a relay activity to conclude this study.

This Court Is Now in Session (Elementary)
This Court Is Now in Session--The Elementary Mock Trial Guide begins with lessons to teach elementary students about the need for “rules and laws” before delving into the court system and the role citizens play in the justice system. The guide also has lessons to analyze the steps necessary to prepare and conduct a mock trial using both scripted and unscripted trials.

In Your Community Map (All Levels)
This curriculum has three specific lessons that utilize a map of a typical community addressing both specific elementary and secondary geography and government TEKS. In the first, students determine what services, workers, forms of transportation are illustrated on the map. The second activity deals with finding examples of the First Amendment freedoms being exercised throughout the community. Finally, secondary teachers can utilize the map with the lesson called “Federalism Geography” in which a student will identify examples of local, state and federal government using their delegated, reserved, or concurrent powers. Teachers, K-12 grades, have our permission to make class sets of the map for their classroom.
