A professional development opportunity for Middle School (Eighth Grade) and High School (American History and Government) teachers.

The Academy offers educators content and strategies for teaching the "Seven Principle's of Constitutionalism" and the "U.S. Constitution in time of Crisis." Important events and decisions concerning Equality in American History will also be studied.

A team of talented scholars and consultants will present information and lessons dealing with TAKS Objective s One and Four. A variety of demonstrated lessons will incorporate multiuse visuals, music and interactive strategies.

Admittance into "The Academy" will be by application only. Twenty-five educators will be selected by a panel created from members of both the Law Focused Education Committee and the Law Focused Education, Inc. Board of Directors. Social Studies teachers employed by public, private or parochial schools or social studies supervisors who work with social studies teachers are eligible to attend.

In order to apply for The Academy, each applicant must complete the following items, May 15, 2008 to be considered for participation in the 2006 Academy:

  • Pay the registration fee of $75.00. Pay online or make check payable to the State Bar of Texas.
  • Complete application form.
  • One page resume.
  • Letter of recommendation from his/her principal, school district administrator or direct/supervisor reflecting support for the applicant to share the materials from the Institute with others on the campus.
  • Applicant essay (100-200 words) The essay should include information about the applicant's professional background and interest in attending the institute. It should also include how the experience would enhance his/her teaching or district service.

A fee of $75 must accompany the application packet. Fees will be returned for those applicants who are not selected to attend. The application packet must be postmarked by May 15, 2008.

All materials, hotel, breakfasts, lunches and dinners will be provided. Participants are responsible for incidentals (pay-per-view movies, room service etc...) and travel to Austin.

Law-Related Education will e-mail notification of selection no later than May 18, 2008.

ALL APPLICANTS will need to submit required paperwork outlined above even if you register online to be considered for attendance to the Academy Institute.
